Weekend Movie Recommendations, or Keep Watching the Skies

The Thing From Another World (1951) is one of my all time favorite movies.  Zippy dialogue (with an old urban legend of a script tune-up by Orson Welles) and a fast paced plot make for a fantastic alien/communist metaphor that influenced generations of filmmakers.  Ridley Scott’s Alien (1979) is basically the same plot, except in space (where no one can hear you scream).
Three years later we got the greatest remake in cinematic history (I will fight you on this point) John Carpenter’s The Thing (1982), a completely different film that compliments and respects the original.  Starring Kurt Russell in a career defining role, special effects by Rob Bottin and a haunting score by Ennio Morricone.
End the night with the sub-par 2011 The Thing prequel, because you want to compare it with John Carpenter’s version and you’re a completionist like me.  It’s an interesting premise full of potential, tracking the space ship’s discovery at the Norwegian station, but the plot is completely submerged by the excessive CGI, indifferent casting and uninspired script.  However they brought back the Ennio Morricone score, so there’s that.

my first novel? thanks for asking:) I wrote a 4 book supernatural martial arts series concerning the ongoing feud between a group of kung-fu killer witches in san francsico’s chinatown.
