Building the Jersey Girl of Your Dreams, or Thoughts on Frankenhooker

In the tradition of Bride of Re-Animator (1990), with a dash of Braindead/Dead Alive (1992) and many, profuse and sincere apologies to Elsa Lancaster and Mary Shelley, Frankenhooker (1990) plays with the themes by having Jeffrey, a New Jersey med school dropout resurrecting his dead girlfriend (who died tragically in a freak lawnmower accident) with an assortment of dayglo New Wave hookers.
A comedy horror movie that’s heavy on the comedy and doesn’t take itself too seriously can be a good thing, and Frankenhooker leans into the audience with the three B’s of exploitation; boobs, blood and body parts (I just made that up for the purposes of this review).   From director Frank Henenlotter of Basket Case (1982) and Braindead (1988) and featuring 1988’s Penthouse Pet of the Year Patty Mullen as the purple haired heroine (see what I did there) and titular character.  There are movies you watch just for the bragging rights, and then there are movies you watch because the title compels you.  Frankenhooker is a little bit of both.

side note: do you like how the title references Jennifer Lopez?  can you see how all the posts connect?  my life is an open book to you people...
